Sustainable carbon black alternative

A carbon-negative replacement for carbon black. Made in America.

We are building U.S. production of high-purity, carbon-negative biocarbons from American forest residues, with no petroleum feedstock, for a more secure supply chain.

The problem we solve

What is carbon black, and why replace it?

Carbon black is the fine black powder that makes tires strong and gives plastics, inks, coatings and cosmetics their color and UV protection. It is made by burning heavy oil or gas in an oxygen-starved furnace, and about 70% of it goes into tires. The world uses more than 14 million tons a year.

Supply security

An oil-dependent supply chain under strain. A local answer.

Fossil carbon black is made from heavy oil. When oil shipping is disrupted, its price and supply follow.

~20%

of global oil supply flowed through the Strait of Hormuz, disrupted since the Iran war began in February 2026.8

+23%

rise in North American carbon black prices in six months, from late 2025 to mid-2026.2

No new plants

Producers are closing lines, and little or no new North American capacity is expected.3

More demand

Tire makers are expanding U.S. plants while tariffs make imports harder to rely on.3

Our answer

Local production, from American forests.

“…the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market.”
International Energy Agency, as cited by Brookings (June 2026)8

Local feedstock

Wood residue from New Mexico’s own wildfire clearing, supplied by the sawmill next door, not shipped across oceans.

No petroleum in the process

No oil feedstock and no external fuel: the kiln runs on its own syngas, so oil shocks do not reach our costs.

U.S.-made equipment

Licensed, patented kiln technology, built in the United States and already operating at seven U.S. sites.

Domestic supply for U.S. industry

A reliable, tariff-free source for American tire, plastics and coatings makers, close to where they build.

Markets

One carbon platform. Seven markets.

Our biocarbons fit into existing supply chains as a carbon-negative input, so every product they go into stores carbon instead of emitting it.

A.01

Plastics & tires

A drop-in replacement for fossil-based carbon black, a “super pollutant”, designed to maintain or improve performance.

A.02

Cement & composites

Adds durability, resilience and hydrophobic properties while storing carbon in the built environment.

A.03

Electronics & advanced carbons

High fixed-carbon feedstock for bio-graphene, carbon nanotubes and next-generation materials.

A.04

Water & remediation

Binds salts, heavy metals, PFAS and organic pollutants for mining, wastewater and rare-earth recovery.

A.05

Agriculture & soil

Regenerates soils for farms, forestry and municipalities, improving soil health and water retention.

A.06

Cosmetics

A plant-based black pigment for mascara, eyeliner and skincare, replacing petroleum-derived carbon black.

A.07

Carbon removal credits

Every ton of biocarbon locks away CO₂ permanently, and will generate AXA-insured carbon removal credits for buyers with net-zero commitments.

Technology

A proven pyrolysis system, from residue to premium carbon.

Industrial buyers need a carbon they can specify. Our process controls every step for purity, structure and consistency, and it runs on proven technology: 17 patents licensed from Biochar NOW, with equipment already operating at seven U.S. sites.

  1. 01

    Forest residue

Low-cost feedstock from wildfire-damaged forest, supplied by a co-located sawmill.

  2. 02

    Vacuum slow pyrolysis

Biomass is heated to 400–700°C without oxygen in a patented vacuum kiln. Its own syngas powers the process.

  3. 03

    Engineered biocarbon

Graphitized structure and tuned surface chemistry, with consistent quality from batch to batch.

  4. 04

    Industrial inputs

To be delivered to manufacturers as a certified, specification-grade material.

Feedstock advantage

We work with biomass that others pay to remove, from wildfire residue to sargassum seaweed. Sourcing it locally keeps costs and transport emissions low.

Surface chemistry

Advanced surface charge and ion-exchange capacity make our biocarbon an active material rather than a passive filler, the basis of its remediation performance.

R&D and partnerships

Active R&D collaborations with Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, Cal Poly, UC Davis and Oregon State University, including a state-funded program with Los Alamos.

Projects

Where waste becomes carbon.

New Mexico comes first. Mexico and Brazil are next in line, taking the same platform to sargassum-choked coastlines and agricultural supply chains.

Las Vegas, New Mexico

Our first commercial-scale facility will be co-located with a sawmill beside the 2022 Hermits Peak–Calf Canyon fire, the largest wildfire in the state’s history. First production is planned for 2027, offtake MOUs are signed, and we have a campus decarbonization partnership with New Mexico Highlands University.

Renewing the Sangre de Cristo

A large-scale regional initiative to prevent wildfire, repair watersheds and build rural prosperity across Colfax, Mora, San Miguel and Taos counties, with biochar as its circular-economy engine.

01GBC manages biomass in the lower watershed around Las Vegas, turning forest-thinning residue into biocarbon.
02Our biochar will supply the tree nursery being built in Mora, growing seedlings to reforest the region.

Impact

Decarbonization that pays for itself.

Carbon taxes and border adjustment mechanisms are making high-carbon inputs more expensive every year. GBC gives manufacturers a carbon-negative, high-performance alternative.

A
Regulation-driven demandEU CBAM and emerging North American and Asian frameworks are penalizing high-carbon imports.
B
Market substitution at scaleFossil carbon black is one of industry’s most widely used inputs, so replacing it moves real volume.
C
Restoration built inEvery ton starts as forest residue, supporting regional wildfire recovery in northern New Mexico.
D
Expanding global uptakeRenewable-carbon production is scaling fast in Europe and Asia as manufacturers shift to bio-based inputs.
